I tried, I can get the clip off (barely) but there is not enough room to get
the pin out. I can't even get my hand on any of the parts.

David,
Your problem is under the dash, like you suspect. You need to take the pin
out of the clevis, and adjust the clevis in(towards the firewall) about a
1/8th inch. You need to have a little bit of play right there, otherwise it will
lock up just like you described. It's a pretty common problem people have
when upgrading their master cylinder/boosters. You should have plenty of space
under the dash. I adjusted it under the dash on my 66. Good luck-

Subject: [Chevelle-list] brake pedal rod adjustment
I had a Willwood master cylinder installed on my 66 chevelle w/non power
front disc/rear drum. The brakes lock up after about a mile of driving. I
checked the brake pedal rod and it has been adjusted all the way out which I'm
pretty sure is what is causing my problem. I tried to adjust the rod under the
dash but I can't get to it. Can I take the master cylinder loose and adjust it
from under the hood?
