That is right in my backyard. I live in Waldorf.
What guy would bring his children and grandkids to a street race at 3 in the
morning? Then step in the middle of the road to watch?
"There were just bodies everywhere; it was horrible," said Crystal Gaines,
27, whose father was among the dead.
Gaines said she grabbed her child but could not help her father, William
Gaines Sr., 61.
"He wasn't breathing, he wasn't moving," she said. "His body was in pieces."
Prince George's County Police Cpl. Clinton Copeland said a tractor-trailer
came by shortly afterward may also have struck someone on the road as it
tried to avoid the crash.
[Jim Thompson] The tire smoke was like a fog across the highway. The poor
bastard who came along just drove into the fog. How was he to know people
were standing in the middle of the road looking the other way. There are no
street lights or traffic signal there. You are more or less in the country
side. The speed limit is 55 but even in rush hour you need to do 70 to stay
with traffic.
I expect teenagers to do these things. I was young and dumb one time too.
Who do you blame? the drivers? No the audience?
Jim
