[Chevelle-list] Radiator Replacement

A radiator shop can tell you if it is worth fixing. Depends somewhat on how old it is. If it has a hole that has developed without cause by damage, I would replace it. I don't see any reason to change to an aluminum radiator.

Godspeed,

It is a mistake to allow any mechanical object to realize you are in a hurry.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] Radiator Replacement

Let me apologize up front for the long post. The last couple of times I went into the garage I saw some coolant under the left front of the car, it wasn't a lot, just enough to wet the floor with a 2 foot diameter spot. It doesn't take much to make it look like a lot plus when I checked the level in the radiator it looked like it was it should be. Checking it out I thought I could see a line coming from under the return nozzle of the radiator where the upper hose attaches. I am still using the old style tower clamps, I thought that may be the culprit and I was going to change out all the old style clamps with new ones. I drove her around a little today and when I stopped I checked it again to see if what I thought was the problem actually was. Well I saw a spot on the tubes about half way top to bottom about an inch from the left tank on the engine side of the radiator. Well here is my question, should I get this one repaired, or buy a new radiator. If a new one is the way to go should it be an aluminum one or an old style replacement. If aluminum is the way to go can it be painted black to resemble an original radiator?

Thanks in advance for your replies.
