The 136xxx VIN does not mean it's NOT a SS car; anymore than the 136XX does
not mean it has air conditioning, automatic transmission, or any other
OPTION, which the SS package is.

The 136 vin # indicates its a non SS with a v-8. DMV is correct.

Folks: I have a 1969 Chevelle SS that I am trying to register with the DMV
in the state of Maine.  The Vin # is 136379K391549.  The DMV insist that I
register this car as a Malibu since that is what the VIN # indicates.  Is
that how you guys have your Chevelle's registered?? Any help would be very
