[Chevelle-list] Antifreeze question

Greetings,

Ever since I bought my 69SS396 in 1997, every autumn I use a "hand pump
siphon" to manually suck out a couple gallons of antifreeze from my
radiator & overflow tank and replace it with a couple gallons of fresh
50-50 (with the 50% of antifreeze always having been the old-fashioned
GREEN, not the new-fangled 100,000 mile ORANGE).

This is easier than doing an entire flush and serves to keep fresh
antifreeze in the system to cut down on corrosion (the batch I take out
every year is VERY clean with no junk in it & no discoloration
whatsoever, so the regimen seems to be working OK).

When I went to buy some fresh GREEN this year, though, I can't find it
(I've checked the likes of Pep Boys, Walmart, KMart, etc) and all that is
carried now is the ORANGE 100,000 mile stuff.

The cans of ORANGE (made by Prestone & the like) CLAIM to be compatible
with the old style antifreeze.

Has anyone mixed the 2? Is it safe for me to pull out a couple gallons
of old GREEN-water 50-50 mix and replace it with a couple gallons of
fresh 50-50 ORANGE-water mix?

        ???

        Jim H.
