[Chevelle-list] Subject: Paint Question

Epoxy primer is your best idea if your not going to paint for a while. Most primers are porous and will absorb water. Epoxy won't. The thing with epoxy is if you don't lay your topcoat in the manufactures window of time, you have to scuff it up before applying anything over it.

I am about to put my 60 IHC pick up on the road and my bodyman is going to fix some stuff, sand off the rust and shoot it with epoxy primer. My thoughts here were if the 17 year old can keep it out of a ditch for a year, we'll paint it. Are you saying that the epoxy primer is a bad idea if I wish to paint in a year or so?

My advice is, don't worry about it. Epoxy primer is also a nonporous/nonsanding sealer. Scuff up what you can, and lay down the top coat.

My frame was sandblasted and epoxy primered about 3 years ago. I know from a previous question/answer that I have to rough the surface of the epoxy primer before I can paint it.

My question is, what about all the places in the frame that I cannot reach to scuff up? What will happen to the paint? Just not stick? I will be using Eastwood's Chassis Black for top coat.
      Any suggestions?
      Thanks in advance.
      Jim S.
