Well I made a deal with the guy and bought the engine. The block is a 361959 date code J 13 77 and the heads are 336781's with 78 date codes. The heads have new springs and valves. It has flat top pistons and a mild cam. There is no step at the top of the cylinders and it is clean throughout. Came with a Edlebrock Aluminum intake and a Rochester carb. From the numbers it looks like a light truck engine. Since its a fresh build I think I can safely beef it up a bit. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Anything else I should look for when evaluating my purchase?
Thanks,Dan Solomon http://www.freewebs.com/chevelles1970/

What has been done to the motor? Rebuilt could mean a set of rings and bearings. Unless he can provide papers I say its high.Is it a performance 454 or just a late 70's smog motor? i can pickup 454 around here (Oregon- Washington) for 1000-1500 all day.
