[Chevelle-list] 396 boring over

I’ve seen early blocks taken as far as 4.250, std bore for a 427/454 block.
Sonic checking is the critical factor. Not all machine shop will be able to
perform this procedure, however.

What is the condition of your engine now? Are you sure it needs to be
bored? A lot of times a simple clean-up with a hone will take care of it.
Have you done a leakdown test?

Subject: [Chevelle-list] 396 boring over

I am curious on much can a 396 block be bored over? Not knowing how much my
numbers 396 has been bored in the past - I am hoping there is still one
more cut in order to true up the walls for new rings / pistons on a future
rebuild.

Thanks,

Krister Meister
