[Chevelle-list] ABS question - non Chevelle

ABS question: Stopping our 98 Pontiac Montana on hard packed snow last night at a stable my daughter rides at – it felt like the wheels just locked up when I went to stop and the brake peddle never pulsated.  Tested it several times with my wife watching and the wheels just locked and slide to a stop.  Speed was probably 15 – 20 MPH when brakes were applied.  I have felt the pulsating on previous slippery conditions, but not this time.  ABS light comes on and goes off when starting engine as it always has as a check on the system.  I am looking for some ABS 101 and if my above situation seems normal to conditions.
