[Chevelle-list] Another rear end question from the rookie

I don't have a copy of that book but I know many of these 'restoration
guides' make a lot of general assumptions and use one model year example for
an entire range of years with no research.
Much like the "Standard catalog of Chevelle 1964-1987" book states when
explaining Fisher Body plates (a.k.a. trim tags), "The BODY NUMBER consists
of a prefix designating assembly plant and the sequential unit production
number at the specific factory." This is true up through 1967 but should be
clarified it's for the body only production number and not the entire
Chevelle lineup production number (i.e., the VIN sequence). The 68 and 69
body numbers appear to be sequential in nature but numbers are too large to
have started at #1 for a given body style and 70-72 body numbers aren't
sequential at all and numbers jump all over the spectrum.
What makes one wonder if they are even talking about the Fisher Body plate
at all is when they describe the Fisher Body STYLE NUMBER (ST) for a 72
Chevelle. ".consists of a prefix identifying model year and four or more
symbols identifying the series and body style (example: 72-1D67 for a 1972
Malibu convertible with a V8 engine.) Fisher Body plates continued to use
the 13667 format like earlier years, the VIN would be in the format of 1D67
as described.

That book is riddled with inaccurate information. Don't use that book as a
reference for anything Chevelle.
There definitely is no clamp on the rear springs of 68-72 Chevelles.

My chevelle is a 1968. If you or others want I can scan a picture of the
page out of my book that has it in it. The name of the book is "Chevelle SS
Restoration Guide" by Motorbooks. It doesnt state any where that the
"clamp" isnt used in 67-72's. It is just labled "Chevelle Rear End
Suspension. Interesting.
