Might check the deck height a bit closer with some thin modeling clay on top
a piston, replace the head and turn it over by hand until that cylinder has
run a cycle of valve openings and check the thickness.

I put pictures up on site for now. The pistons have writing on them 2347P
UP 040. They also come up past the top about 1/4". Not sure if this is
nomal?????????

Looks like a stamped number from Tonawanda with date 0208 (Feb 8) but last
two would be letters to identify engine hp and trans type (?) like ED, EF,
EG, etc.  FWIW, all Mark IV engines have some form of HIPERF, HIPER, etc.
cast in them. :*)

I picked up the 396 today. There was numbers on front of Block hid in paint.
Can anyone tell me what they mean???

1020840 I think.
