[Chevelle-list] Manifold vacuum fitting?

Ahhh!

Why didn't I think of that? :-(
I ordered a new original manifold vacuum fitting which is much better than
the one I got.If that doesen't do it... Then I'll use a T-fitting at the carb base!

Thanks again everyone!

Pelle

  Pelle,

You can use a "T" fitting so both the power brake booster and the PCV can be attached to the base of the carb.

I removed the hoses & plugged the fittings just as an experiment & it doubled the idle rpm!!!

That whole system feels "so so" to me and makes me considering a separate vacuum pump

for the power brakes!? But first I'll try a thin film of silicone sealer on the power brake booster

fitting/grommet to see if it does the trick? Since I only have one vacuum source at the base
of the carb (PCV) I'll have to stick with the manifold fitting for the brakes? Maybe I should
replace it with a better fitting instead of that flimsy piece?

Or should I get an adapter plate with a vacuum fitting?

Just to add a little info:

As Carl said, the fitting pictured is for the trans. The fitting will probably go in the rear-passenger side of the manifold.

The fitting for the brakes is MUCH bigger around. As Carl said, it'll come off the back of the carb and will be about 1/2inch in diameter

    Pelle -

Getting these wrong (and leaving them unplugged) might be contributing to your poor idle issues.

The pictured item is for the vacuum to the trans. It typically has a hard steel line that goes into that fitting with a short piece of rubber hose to make the seal. The power brakes are off the back of the carb on bottom, at least that is the way my 72 is.
