[Chevelle-list] Manifold vacuum fitting?

I removed the hoses & plugged the fittings just as an experiment & it
doubled the idle rpm!!!

That whole system feels “so so” to me and makes me considering a separate
vacuum pump

for the power brakes!? But first I’ll try a thin film of silicone sealer on
the power brake booster

fitting/grommet to see if it does the trick? Since I only have one vacuum
source at the base
of the carb (PCV) I’ll have to stick with the manifold fitting for the
brakes? Maybe I should
replace it with a better fitting instead of that flimsy piece?

Or should I get an adapter plate with a vacuum fitting?

Just to add a little info:

As Carl said, the fitting pictured is for the trans. The fitting will
probably go in the rear-passenger side of the manifold.

The fitting for the brakes is MUCH bigger around. As Carl said, it'll come
off the back of the carb and will be about 1/2inch in diameter

Getting these wrong (and leaving them unplugged) might be contributing to
your poor idle issues.

The pictured item is for the vacuum to the trans. It typically has a hard
steel line that goes into that fitting with a short piece of rubber hose to
make the seal. The power brakes are off the back of the carb on bottom, at
least that is the way my 72 is.
