[Chevelle-list] Camshaft Break in

Interesting.  I did not know that there were oils that would cause a problem
with the cats.  I'll keep this handy for my next break in.  Any reason NOT
to use these for roller engines?

I would highly recommend running Shell Rotella for engine break-in,if your
engine has flat tappets. Valvoline Racing oil is another one. Both have the
needed additives. Late model roller motors don't have to have them and those
additives will damage catalytic converters.

Hi Everyone..
I'm doing a cam change on my 327 and have been doing some reading about
engine oils..I have seen numerous times in some articles that using diesel
engine oil for the break in period and actually for the first 3000 miles is
a better way to go...I saw one article using Shell Rottela oil....They say
its because the oil companies have quit putting in some of the additives
that prevernt premature wear.....
My question is....Has anybody used the diesel oil in their engine???
