[Chevelle-list] Camshaft Break in

Yes and no. It is not that the oil is something exotic, it is just that oil
for a Diesel engine meets a higher spec level. I was told a few years ago
that to use oil rated for Diesel (API rating of SJ) as that was the best.
There may be oils made for Diesel specifically, and as long as they meet or
exceed the SJ rating, then I would use that as well.

When I break in an engine, I usually use a dino oil for 300-500 miles and
change oil and filter, then go 3,000 miles and change oil and filter, and
then maybe switch to synthetic if I plan to use that.

Hi Everyone..
I'm doing a cam change on my 327 and have been doing some reading about
engine oils..I have seen numerous times in some articles that using diesel
engine oil for the break in period and actually for the first 3000 miles is
a better way to go...I saw one article using Shell Rottela oil....They say
its because the oil companies have quit putting in some of the additives
that prevernt premature wear.....
My question is....Has anybody used the diesel oil in their engine???
